The Sexual Healing Journey: A Guide for Survivors of Sexual Abuse by Wendy Maltz

The Sexual Healing Journey: A Guide for Survivors of Sexual abuse is an insightful book by an author who is a gifted and experienced sex and relationship therapist.  Maltz gives the reader skills to practice along with exercises to help understand and interpret where one is in his or her individual journey of healing.

This book helps readers identify the effects of sexual abuse, eliminate negative sexual behavior and resolve specific problems, change automatic reactions to touch and sex, and develop a more healthy concept of sexual self. Maltz writes with compassion in an easy-to read style that is frank, interactive, and well-organized. In addition, the author’s video “Relearning Touch: Healing Techniques for Couples” is available at no charge on her website HealthySex.com, which features the exercises described in the book.

Come As You Are: The Surprising New Science that Will Transform Your Sex Life by Emily Nogoski

Emily Nogoski is a self-described “fulltime sex nerd, traveling the country, teaching college students, training professionals, and learning every day.” Prior to this, she had extensive training and practice in psychology, sexuality, and teaching at the university level.

Her books is a refreshing and frank look into the nuts and bolts of female sexuality that clears away the mystique and reveals precisely how female sexuality works, which is both simple and complicated.

With chapter titles such as “Anatomy, No Two Alike,” Cultural Content, a Sex-Positive Life in a Sex Negative World,” and “Desire, Actually, It’s Not a Drive,” Nogoski dives fearlessly into areas that many women (and men) did not know, understand, or, of course, were afraid to ask. Almost like a roadmap to female anatomy, sexuality, and arousal, this book can be used in a multitude of ways to learn more about our bodies, ourselves, our sexuality, our intimacy, and our sexual relations.
