All individuals have an attachment style, which is our innate, instinctual drive to be connected to and attached to others. We fall into two main categories: securely attached and insecurely attached.

More often than not, betrayed partners and those dealing with compulsive sexual behavior are insecurely attached. In this video, we will explore the variations of insecure attachment that show up in this dynamic.

Insecure attachment styles can contribute to a cycle of pursuit and withdrawal. While this dynamic is common in relationships in general, it is greatly intensified in relationships after betrayal.

Four Types of Gaslighting

Many betrayed partners are confused when they find out their significant other has been cheating or dealing with a sexual addiction. They are confused because in their relationship, the partner has avoided sex or infrequently engaged in sex. When they find out their partner has a sexual life outside of the relationship it raises all kinds of questions about why the partner wants sex with others but not with them. These questions can be painful and cause feelings of shame or rejection.

In my most recent video, I discuss four reasons why someone might be sexual outside of their primary relationship while avoiding sex within the relationship.
