CRR Team Spotlight, Aja Murillo

This week we invite you to take a few minutes to get to know a little bit more about Aja Murillo.

Aja Murillo is a Supervisee in Social Work at the Center for Relational Recovery. She earned her Masters and Bachelors of Social Work from Hawaii Pacific University.Aja has felt called to work with people her whole life. Early in her career she thought this would be through nursing. Over time, she realized nursing was not the right fit. One day, a coworker, who later became her mentor, asked her if she had ever considered becoming a social worker. Aja explored the field, took her first Intro to Social Work course and felt a true connection to the values, discipline, and perspective of the counseling and social work field. She decided to pursue her education and career in Social Work and hasn’t looked back yet!

Aja has experience working with active duty military and their dependents, veterans, clients coping with betrayal trauma, sexual addiction, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), survivors’ guilt, sexual assault and abuse, and alcohol and substance abuse in all stages of recovery.

Aja values the honor bestowed on her by her clients who allow her to journey alongside them as they deepen their understanding of themselves, find genuine healing, and strengthen their relationships.

Aja and her family are new to Virginia and relocated from Hawaii where she spent most of her life. Along with her family, she relocated her three dogs Sweetie Pie (Norwich Terrier), Chloe (English Mastiff), and Miss Daisy (Saint Bernard). While they all miss the beautiful beaches, and yummy food, they couldn’t be happier to find themselves here in Virginia where they plan to make this their forever home.

Some other fun facts about Aja is that she loves Mariah Carey and Karaoke but is an awful singer, she danced hula for many years, and dreams of one day having the commitment and courage to run a marathon.
